Harrison House
A century-old gathering place at the heart of Big Bar Guest Ranch — currently closed to guests as we carefully restore it for the next generation of stories.
Notice
Harrison House is currently under construction.
The building is closed to guests while we complete structural and interior restoration work. We can’t wait to welcome you inside again — until then, please enjoy the rest of the ranch and check back for updates on our progress.
A Cariboo Story
The Story of Harrison House
Built in the early days of Big Bar Ranch, Harrison House has long been the social heart of the property — a place where guests, ranch hands, and neighbours gathered around the stone fireplace to share meals, music, and tall tales after long days on the range.
Generations of families have passed through its doors. Honeymooners, cattlemen, anglers, and wide-eyed kids on their first trail ride have all warmed up at its hearth. The pool table, the foosball, the worn floorboards — every detail carries the imprint of decades of laughter and a uniquely Cariboo way of life.
Time and weather have taken their toll, and the house now needs care to ensure it stands for many more decades. Our restoration work honours the original craftsmanship while quietly bringing the building up to modern standards of comfort and safety.
Feature
Preserving Harrison House
Our preservation effort is about more than repairs. It’s about protecting a piece of Cariboo heritage so future guests can experience the same warm, timeless gathering place that has welcomed travellers for over a century.
Honouring the original
Where possible, we’re repairing original logs, beams, and millwork rather than replacing them — keeping the soul of the building intact.
Restoring the hearth
The stone fireplace, long out of commission, is being assessed so it can once again be the centrepiece of evenings spent inside Harrison House.
Ready for the next century
Upgraded systems, careful structural work, and respectful interior finishes will allow Harrison House to keep gathering people together for generations to come.
